Google’s Gemini API CLI is a separate tool from Gemini CLI. Its official repository describes a stateless command-line interface that lets an existing shell-capable agent call Gemini models and managed agents through the Gemini API.

Why does it matter?

The design makes Gemini capabilities available as components in another agent’s workflow rather than requiring teams to replace their existing agent. Stateless calls also make the boundary between the calling agent’s context and an individual tool invocation important to understand.

Google’s Gemini API CLI is a separate tool from Gemini CLI. Its official repository describes a stateless command-line interface that lets an existing shell-capable agent call Gemini models and managed agents through the Gemini API.

The project describes commands for text and multimodal analysis, media generation and managed-agent workflows. An invocation can return a generated asset or the identifier of a background managed-agent run. The tool requires an API key; its README describes each invocation as independent rather than retaining a conversational session.

A Google developer announced the tool on October 26. The repository describes intended functionality; LessCarbs did not independently test each integration or infer that every model and feature is available to every user.
