Anthropic’s existing Max and Team benefit provides monthly API credits, with plan-specific amounts and claim conditions.
The allowance can fund eligible applications and agents, but it does not extend interactive Claude or Claude Code quotas.
What happened?
Anthropic announced monthly Claude Platform API credits for Max and Team subscribers on October 7. This is an explanation of that existing benefit, not an October 28 launch. The original announcement set Max 5x credits at $100 a month, Max 20x at $200, and Team credits at up to $500 pooled across users.
Its current help page requires an eligible active plan for seven days and a linked Claude Console organization. Credits renew with the billing cycle, and unused balances expire rather than rolling over. Team owners claim a shared organization balance; it is not $500 for each seat.
The API, Playground, Managed Agents and eligible Agent SDK use can draw on the credit. Interactive Claude Code sessions and extra usage inside Claude apps cannot. The credit does not increase five-hour or weekly plan limits, and Free, Pro and Enterprise plans are not eligible.

Why does it matter?
Our analysis: the useful distinction is between subscribing to an assistant and building something that calls a model. A developer experimenting with an app or agent may gain an API budget without that same balance helping a long interactive coding session.
Treat the allowance as a separate, expiring development budget. Check the linked organization and billing route before assuming a workload will use it. The headline amount is less useful than knowing which usage pool an application actually draws from.
Update November 2: Max 20x is now Ultra, but the weekly pools remain
Anthropic has renamed Max 5x to Max and Max 20x to Ultra without changing the stated web prices: $100 per month for Max and $200 for Ultra. The current Ultra help page describes ten times Pro's weekly usage and says verified Ultra accounts do not have a five-hour limit. Existing Max 20x subscribers move automatically, with no price change.
That exemption is conditional. Anthropic says newer accounts may retain a temporary five-hour limit until verification, and its Claude Code documentation still describes a weekly limit for Ultra. Max and Ultra also have a separate weekly Fable limit shared across Claude and Claude Code. Removing one session timer therefore does not mean unlimited interactive use.
This is separate from the API-credit benefit covered above. Interactive Claude and Claude Code quota, the Fable pool, weekly limits and API billing are different accounting systems. A subscriber deciding whether to move work into Claude Code should check which credential and usage pool the task actually uses rather than treating the renamed tier as a general quota increase.
